Dear Lorene:

I’m fascinated by how much I got rout of the Course– in light of the fact that I do not own a piano, and did not frequently have access to one for practice. Yet in another sense this is no surprise because the Course trains you from the beginning with various exercises and experiments that are designed to be practiced without a piano. And because this is recommended so consistently (in nearly all, if not every lesson), you find yourself just as absorbed, enthusiastic and attentive when working away from the piano as when at the piano. There is never any half-hearted sense of, “Well, I)m not actually playing today, so this exercise I’m doing isn’ t really important.”

Having spent time sitting down with the Course and simply reading, I’d highly recommend it–particularly for going back over parts of the Course you’ve already covered. When away from the piano and just reading, you’re covering the same ground–but going deeper.

Of course, this kind of reading can be done practically anywhere, and brings up an important point which people with busy schedules will find attractive. The Course is completely “portable”, and can be taken with you to read and enjoy, for instance, while sitting on a plane or train. It also offers an excellent way to relieve tension, or to relax and refresh yourself during a stressful period at work. It’s a great idea to just close the door to your office or sit quietly somewhere and take a “Music Break.”

Thank you for this Course.
Peter
